Muay Thai
Muay Thai is an intense form of kickboxing that, besides punching and kicking, also involves use of the elbow and knee, and a clinching technique. Originally used by ancient Thai warriors in battle, this aerobic form of combat prepares today’s students with better endurance, concentration, and discipline. Professional and amateur fighters are better prepared for bouts, but even beginners who train in Muay Thai become physically and mentally stronger.
Brazilian Jujitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a popular form of self-defense that teaches grappling and ground fighting. Part of its training includes instructing students how to use leverage, submission moves and chokeholds against an opponent, even if the opponent is much larger. For adults, there are seven belt-color levels depending on level of training.
Judo
The main practice of the art of Judo self-defense is to use one’s opponent’s strength against him. Students learn to do this through
applying indirect force to try and takedown or immobilize the opponent. Although the word “Judo” means “gentle way,” it is still a combat sport, as strikes, thrusts and weapons are a common part of this art.
MMA
“Mixed martial arts” is an umbrella term that consists of a wide variety of combat sports. Fighters use a variety of skills and techniques to best their opponents, from striking to grappling; on the ground or standing. This full-contact form of fighting has been growing more popular in the U.S. the past few years as organizations increasingly promote bouts. Mixed martial arts often combines the techniques learned from wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Karate, Muay Thai, clinching and grappling.
The Little Bruisers
The Little Bruisers Program for children instructs kids on the core values of respect, honesty, humility, and dignity through self-defense. The program has an age-specific curriculum that focuses on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai training to teach kids eight major skills: focus, teamwork, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness and coordination. The Little Bruisers program is suitable for ages four through 12.
Women’s Self-Defense
Our women’s self-defense workshops offer a combination of ground fighting, striking, and weapons-based self-defense techniques. The goal is to give women the tools they need to feel confident and to avoid dangerous situations. Women are encouraged to train in all our disciplines at Black & Blue to build strength and endurance. Our self-defense workshop is a great addition to your training or an important stand-alone course.
Kali
Weapons disarming techniques allow students to swiftly and effectively disarm an opponent to defend oneself. An important tool to learn both in the ring and out, the proper skills help you gain control of the attacker’s weapon through leverage, footwork and close-quarters combat.
